Rajahmundry: Villagers nabbed four men who had tried to kidnap a married woman and handed them over to the police at Sriramavaram village in West Godavarion Tuesday.
According to the police, a gang of six men from Sammetavarigudem, led by Pathuluri Suresh, the main accused, came to Sriramavaram at about 2.30 am with the intention to abduct a woman Suresh used to like.
They reached the woman’s in-laws house thinking that she might be there. However, the woman was at her parents’ place at that particular time. As the kidnappers barged into the property of the woman’s in-laws, inmates of the house raised an alarm. Neighbours came rushing and were able to nab four men. Suresh managed to escape with one of his friends.
The villagers tied the nabbed men to posts and beat them up. Later they were handed over to the cops.
Sources say that Suresh had fallen in love with the woman earlier, but she had refused to accept his proposal. Six months ago, she married another man.
Since then, Suresh had been nursing a grudge against her.
