4,709 MBBS Seats Filled So Far

HYDERABAD: The second phase of medical counselling concluded on Wednesday in both Telangana and AP, save for seats in the six private medical colleges that had approached the Supreme Court recently.

The six colleges are: Great Eastern Medical(Srikakulam), Medicity Institute of Medical Sciences, Malla Reddy Medical  College  (Hyderabad), Katuri Medical College (Guntur) and two minority colleges.

With the Supreme Court’s intervention as many as 550 MBBS seats in these colleges were made available for medical aspirants. Earlier, the Medical Council of India had cancelled the seats in them owing to non-compliance of requisite academic and infrastructure facilities.

The apex court directive has brought a respite to aspirants with the increase in number of seats for the current academic year.

Due to lack of clarity in filling these seats, the colleges have once again approached the Supreme Court seeking guidelines in carrying out counselling for the seats that were made available at the last moment.

Confirming this, Dr NTR University of Health Sciences camp officer, Dr Murali Mohan said, “Some of these six colleges have filed another petition seeking guidelines to carry out counselling. Meanwhile, it is important to bear in mind that any admission process should conclude by September 30. Even for this another round of counselling, both governments should give their consent.”

In all, a total of 4,709 MBBS and 1,511 BDS seats, respectively, have been filled in two phases of counselling by Wednesday.
